On the Road

That. Was. Epic.
I’m not talking about anything on Mike and Jax’s Epic Roadtrip 2011; I’m talking about the packing marathon that preceded it.
Those who know me know I’m a light traveler under most circumstances. I can pack a week’s worth of stuff into my 17″ carry-on. 2 weeks’ worth if I’m heading someplace warm. I traveled for almost a year with only the stuff I could fit onto my bicycle. Roadtrips are different though. Very, very different.
Mike and I are planning on camping, hiking, biking, rock climbing, canyoneering, photographing, and more on our 2-week roadtrip, which means that we are carrying almost every specialized piece of gear that we own. That, by the way, is an awful lot of gear.
You might be wondering what kind of miracle vehicle could transport 2 people and 2 tons of gear. The answer might surprise you: a 2005 Pontiac Vibe! Not a truck or a van or an SUV, just my little hatchback Vibe. This car is the shit! My baby can hold a lot of gear. She’s nearing the 100,000 mile mark, so keep your fingers crossed that she’s up to the task. I think she’ll do just fine.
And so we’re off. Where are we headed? North. Beyond that? Who knows? We’ll all find out soon enough!
Congrats to all the RAGBRAIers who finished another fantastic ride across Iowa! Way to go Dad, Jan, and Brandon!
Yay for the return of the blog!! Happy birthday sister!! Hope your trip starts out amazing…be safe! š
